Organizers of this year's run -- the chamber of commerce and HOTRC (Historic Old Town Royse City) -- are looking for 2014 to be a "breakout" year. They're looking for more runners and this year's event is being promoted as a "jailhouse run."
The RunFest 5k will be a run for a cause. The cause this year is to raise funds for the old city jail located under the water tower in downtown Royse City. Proceeds from the run will be used to restore the old jail because of its historical significance.
Runners are encouraged to dress up in jailhouse garb -- striped running gear, for example. Awards will be presented to runners with the best "jailhouse" running costumes.

PLUS adding a whole new element to our 25th anniversary- Does beer tickle your fancy? Does craft beer? Microfest invites you to Tap Into Royse City! Saturday, Oct. 18 from 12-6 pm the inaugural craft beer experience comes to you under the water tower at Old Jail Park on the 200 block of E. Main St. in downtown Royse City.

You will find your local favorite beers as well as ciders and a bit of wine. Under a large tent where three local bands will be performing the entire time, 20 beer brands will host over 60 styles to choose from. Here is how it works. Your $20 ticket gets you 8 samples. An additional 8 samples can be purchased for $5. Tickets are sold at the event and there is a limit of only 1000 so come a little early. But it’s not just about the beer. Microfest 2014 supports two local charities: The Royse City Animal Shelter and Our Daily Bread Food Pantry.
