Rockwall, Texas – July 24, 2019 – The big reveal is happening next week. The City of Rockwall is the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas, and to commemorate the moniker, the City will install five guitars around town as public art pieces, all created by local artists. Over the past few months, the artists have been working diligently in their studios to create the masterpieces—and next Thursday, August 1 at 7 p.m., the creations will be unveiled to the public.

Rockwall Artists

Under the direction of the Rockwall Art Commission, five local artists, including Jake Bays, James Kuntz, Nancy Kuntz, Susie Varner, and Kenyon Bevan Walter each designed the guitars to reflect their own personal style. The project is the second for the Art in Public Places program, which is overseen by the Art Commission: Judge David Sweet, Doug Agee, Jane Braddock, Betty Hoaglund, Kathleen Morrow and City Art Liaison, Bethany Browning. Funding for the project is provided by proceeds approved in the 2012 Bond Election to be dedicated to public art.

Guitar Locations Around Rockwall

The guitars will be placed at prominent locations around Rockwall: City Hall, San Jacinto Plaza, Cain’s Corner Park, Harry Myers Park and The Harbor. The reveal will take place next Thursday at the Concert by the Lake at The Harbor—so the public can see the art that will soon represent the City. The final stage is to create pedestals for each guitar, and the art is set to be installed by this fall.
