The Military Heritage Collection of North Texas exists to collect, preserve and exhibit artifacts to honor America’s military veterans and to help educate visitors about the long history of loyal dedicated service and sacrifice that has been provided by the men and woman of the United States military.
Located in the South East corner of Collin County in North Texas the collection is maintained as a 501C3 Texas non profit museum collection.
Formed around 2008 the collection is entirely operated by unpaid volunteers.
The collection is open to the general public and hosts a growing number of veteran, school, youth, civic and other groups.
We try our utmost to ensure that the collection is presented in a way that does justice to the artifacts. Long term preservation of the collection is important to us as custodians of the artifacts and we have active ongoing preservation and restoration plans for everything from uniforms to armored vehicles.
We stage a number of unique events of our own during the year and as part of an outreach program we provide military vehicles and artifacts for display at events all over the North Texas area. If you have an event and would like our participation please contact the museum with details.

Amy Parks – Heath Elementary School in Heath, Texas
The school’s name honors distinguished local educator Amy Parks, and identifies its geographic location in the City of Heath. Amy Parks spent her entire 35-year career teaching Rockwall’s first graders to read and preparing them for the future. The school’s site was made possible through the generosity of Dorothy and K.K. Stanfield who donated the 12 acres for the school. The school’s recreational area is named in honor of the Stanfields, who are long time residents of Heath.
In the 1880’s, the Heath community had two schools; the schools merged in the early 1900’s. A large two-story, 10 grade, frame school house was constructed in 1913. Today’s beautiful new school opened in 1995 and is located near the site of the old Heath School. Its focal point bell tower was inspired by photographs of the old one, and the original school bell is on display in the foyer.

Sharon Shannon taught for 29 years in the Rockwall Independent School District. In the course of her career at Rockwall High School, she influenced nearly 4,000 students who have left her classroom to earn college degrees, to get jobs and to become contributing members of their communities. All of these students gained more than a superior education in her field of expertise; they learned how to think, reflect, discern, judge and to reason for themselves at a time in their educational development when the maturity and wisdom they gained would alter the course of their lives forever.
The respect of her students was evident by their demeanor in the classroom. They understood they were in the presence of a master teacher and they took advantage of each moment to grow and to enjoy learning. Their admiration and esteem was also evident by the number of students who named her as their most unforgettable and influential teacher.
The high regard of her colleagues was evident, too, by the numerous times she was nominated (and won) the annual Teacher of the Year award voted on by the RHS staff. She was also elected to Delta Kappa Gamma Society International because of her outstanding dedication and ability in the field of education.
Sharon Shannon Elementary School first opened in 2007.
