New Courthouse Comes In Over Budget

In a move that seemed to surprise no one, our County Commissioners approved a $37.2 million price tag for the new courthouse building. Since this is $7.2 million more than the county had planned for, we will now be going into our emergency reserves to build it. The voters rejected this plan not once, but twice, and are being told that it will now cost over 24 percent more than the figure we were assured would be an upper limit. The question to you, dear readers: Is this a good idea?

That’s outrageous. Another example of how politicians don’t look at our tax money as real dollars. I think those guys should be given a budget - say $20 million (max). Then they should organize bake sales to cover the rest…

Is this becoming business as usual? It’s no wonder that concerned citizens (voting tax payers!) feel powerless when their voice is ignored. Repeatedly.

Saw the groundbreaking “celebration” in the news back when it happened. It looked like a sorry and somber event. No surprise really.
