Supporting Rockwall County students is an Aggie tradition of 25 years in the making. On Friday, May 18, 2012, the Rockwall County A&M Club continues that tradition by hosting the 25th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament at Buffalo Creek Golf Club in Rockwall. Proceeds from the tournament fund the club’s numerous scholarships awarded to local students attending Texas A&M University.
The club awards scholarships each year to one graduating senior from Rockwall High School and one from Rockwall-Heath High School, along with several scholarships to returning Texas A&M students. Graduating seniors, Peyton Brown from Rockwall Heath High School and Jillian Maners from Rockwall High School, were the 2011 recipients of $5,000 scholarship awards. Endowed Scholarship awards were also presented to five returning students. Including planned scholarships to be awarded in 2012, Rockwall County A&M Club approaches $200,000 in scholarship awards.
“The Rockwall County A&M Club Golf Tournament has been a 25-year endeavor of former students helping new students at Texas A&M. The scholarships we provide make a difference in the lives of students and their families. The fact that we have a great time while putting on a worthwhile tournament is icing on the cake”, says the club’s president and ‘95 graduate, Lesli Johnson.
The golf tournament begins with a shotgun start at 1:00 pm. Putting and chipping contests will be held prior to the tournament start. Entry fee includes: 18-holes of golf, cart rental, driving range, lunch, dinner, keg beer, sodas, water, and gifts. There are many ways to get involved with this tournament and show your support to Rockwall students. Join the Rockwall County A&M Club by volunteering, playing golf, or sponsoring a hole or an event at the tournament. Register at rockwallaggies.com
