City Council members gave final approval to amending an ordinance regulating solicitation and panhandling in public right-of-way or adjacent to such property and pertaining to setting up a make-shift home or sleeping in public places.
The revised solicitation ordinance better defines regulations regarding soliciting and attempts by people to camp on public property. Enforcement will be the job of the city’s Police Department.
This action was taken after officials noticed an increase in the number of people soliciting funds at major intersections with signs and by walking from vehicle to vehicle. The new regulations will not apply to some non-profit organizations such as Shriners.
