Heath, TX -- Heath Department of Public Safety Officer Tyler Young has received a Public Safety Commendation Award from the City of Heath in recognition of his outstanding performance during a structure fire in 2010.
“Officer Young’s brave and immediate actions during the fire were instrumental in saving the life of a fellow officer,” said Heath DPS Chief Terry Garrett. “His colleague became trapped and faced grave danger due to a flashover event within the property.”
According to Chief Garrett, Young freed the officer, helped him escape the burning property, and immediately began rendering first aid.
“Once the officer was stabilized and transported to the hospital, Officer Young continued his duties on the fire ground for an additional eight hours before being relieved,” said Chief Garrett. “The composure and skill he demonstrated throughout the incident exemplified the characteristics of a superior public safety professional.”
