June 7, 2010 -- Rockwall's "Foreclosure Angel" Marilyn Mock was presented with the first-ever Beyond the Horizon Distinguished Citizen Award by Mayor Bill Cecil at Monday night's city council meeting. Citing her Foreclosure Angel Foundation efforts nationwide to save the homes of people who have fallen on hard times in today's stressed economy, the mayor presented Marilyn with a trophy and plaque, declaring Monday to be Marilyn Mock day in Rockwall.
The idea for the Foreclosure Angel Foundation began when, in November 2008, Marilyn attended an auction of foreclosed homes. Seeing the distress of an owner losing her home, Marilyn bought the home and sold it back to the owner at the lower auction price -- (see Story and Video). This simple act of kindness became the seed from which grew a foundation which has helped families from all over the country save their homes from foreclosure. In many cases it is just a matter of making up a few house payments or catching up on delinquent taxes.
Anyone wishing to help this worthy organization, either through contribution or volunteer efforts, can contact Marilyn through the foundation website www.foreclosureangelfoundation.com -- or by email at helpus@foreclosureangelfoundation.com .
At the same meeting, newly re-elected city council members Mark Russo, Cliff Sevier and Margo Nielsen were sworn in to begin their new two-year terms in office.
