What do you get when you round up 5,000 people for a Saturday morning workout? According to personal trainer and event promoter Tony Woods, you get a world record.
That's exactly what Woods and local gym owner and trainer Scott Moerschell will be shooting for on Saturday, October 30 at Eclipse Fitness. They fully expect that Rockwall, in a bid to become ranked as one of Texas' fittest cities, will bring a turnout that will overshadow the current record of 2,700 workout participants held in Lawrence Kansas. Should this happen, results will be duly recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Woods, personal trainer and owner of YPT Fitness Studio/A.M. Boot Camps, envisions the event as a kickoff to the Get-Fit-Rockwall program, designed to help our community become one of the fittest places Texas by encouraging residents to "take the first step towards beginning a healthy exercise program." He hopes that bringing a large group together will create an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie, motivating participants to continue with their health and fitness goals.
The event will begin at 8:00 A.M. with a health fair consisting of exhibits by health-oriented sponsors, such as Presbyterian Hospital, Baylor Health, Helping Hands, Lake Pointe Hospital, and Train-up Fitness.
At 10:15, the actual group workout will start, consisting of a modified calisthenics program lasting approximately 30 minutes. "We hope to inspire participants to do more in their daily lives by incorporating a healthier lifestyle."
Tony has been active in fitness training for over 20 years. While in the Army, he realized that he needed to lose some weight, and in the process became committed to keeping fit, and to helping others to do so. For the last 12 years, his studio on Garland has been working one-on-one and in group settings to accomplish this.
