Have you done your crab abs today? Don't know what they are? Then you must have missed Saturday's Get Fit Rockwall workout at Eclipse Fitness.
Along with pushups, jumping jacks, planks and squats, crab abs were part of the program for the hundreds who showed up for the event, designed to educate and encourage Rockwall to become the fittest city in Texas. Led by fitness trainer Tony Woods and sponsored by Eclipse Fitness, the City of Rockwall, and other health-oriented businesses in the community, enthusiastic participants went through a 30-minute workout under perfect weather conditions.
Tony called out each 30-second exercise, while his staff demonstrated and pumped up the audience. Between sessions were ample rest periods followed by more exercise. Everyone was reminded to work at his or her own pace and to keep it fun. His staff then launched a huge beach ball into the crowd, sending the kids scrambling to keep it aloft.
A party atmosphere prevailed, with the clear message that keeping fit does not have to be an ordeal, and can be a family activity as well. Sponsoring businesses hosted a health fair to spotlight their services, providing information and samples of healthy food and drink. Said Woods, "There was a lot of energy out there today. It was especially nice to see the kids exercising right along with their parents."
