A $2.6 million mansion owned by the Clint Pittman family of Heath was destroyed in a fire Thursday. The home was estimated to be more than 20,000-square feet in size.
The massive fire occurred around 1:30 p.m., while the family was away. Two firefighters were injured but are expected to recover.
Witness Eric Grundelman, who lives just a few miles away, said the flames could be seen from a distance. He said he could tell by the amount of smoke that something really big was burning and wondered if it was one of the luxury homes in that area. Grundelman drove to the property and snapped images with his cell phone camera. He said there were 14 fire units at the scene.
The home is located on the 8200 block of Farm-to-Market Road 549 near Farm-to-Market Road 740. It is considered a total loss.
Firefighters from Heath, Rockwall, Fate, Royse City, Forney and Terrell were involved in the long process of extinguishing the blaze that overtook the mansion.
