In the spirit of the season

The gift of a lifetime...
Make this season special for the seniors in our community.
I'd like you to meet Florence. Florence was born in the 1920's in Heath. She went to school here, and remembers the fields of cotton, the gins, and the way friends and neighbors helped each other. But times have changed, and the years have taken away so much. In her eighties, she is more frail, unable to drive, and much of her family has either passed away or lives out of state.
"I appreciate the Meals-on-Wheels, because I probably couldn't stay in my own home without it. I can't use a can opener anymore, and cooking is really difficult," Flo said. But she doesn't complain. Florence is grateful for the volunteers from the Meals-on-Wheels program that brings nutritious meals to her home Monday through Friday.
Today, the Rockwall County Committee on Aging (a 501 (c) 3 non-profit), provides Meals-on-Wheels to over 150 seniors a day. Volunteers use their own gas and drive hundreds of miles to deliver these much-needed meals to home bound seniors. It is more than a healthy diet. Home delivered meals can mean the difference of being able to live independently in their own home for their remaining years, or moving into a nursing home.
As the number of seniors in Rockwall County grows, there are more and more people like Florence who need Meals-on-Wheels. The challenge to meet this need has become even greater with the current decreases in federal funding.
You can help give back to those who gave so much to this community, the children of yesterday.
A donation of $35 will feed a senior for a week.
A gift of $125 will feed a senior for a month.
A contribution of $1,500 will feed a senior for one year.
As you send in your contribution, Florence and others like her will be able to enjoy a meal as well, because your gift made their mealtime possible. We greatly appreciate your generous contribution. If this message has touched your heart please forward it to your friends and family.
