MusicFest “End of Summer” Concert at The Harbor

The greater Rockwall Philharmonic Orchestra will present its second “End of Summer Concert” at the Harbor on Saturday, August 20, 8 p.m. This concert is presented free to all under the auspices of Rockwall MusicFest.
This exciting musical treasure of professional and talented, youthful musicians, is entering its ninth year. Well known conductor and chorale director, Dr. Stephen Holcomb, will again lead the orchestra in an evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein classics, together with the thirty five member chorale group from Dallas Baptist University.Dr. Holcomb conducts the University Concert Chorale, DBU Grand Chorus, and LEGACY Ensemble. Under Dr. Holcomb’s direction the Choral Ensembles enjoy a national reputation for excellence. These ensembles have presented concerts in London, Edinburgh and at such venues as St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy, the Dom Cathedral in Salzburg, St. Stefan’s Cathedral in Vienna, and the National Cathedral.
In addition to his choral conducting, Dr. Holcomb serves as conductor/director for DBU’s Music Theatre Practicum productions of Broadway musicals including such shows as Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, Hello! Dolly, and Beauty and the Beast . He has also served as musical director/conductor for performances by the DBU Opera Theatre such as Hansel and Gretel, Gianni Schicci, Falstaff, Dido & Aeneas, and The Mikado.
Last year the concert event drew close to two thousand music lovers. The professional reputation of the orchestra has grown throughout the years. Students from the RISD, Meadows School of Music at SMU and well known professionals throughout north Texas will present the beloved scores from the King and I, Oklahoma, Sound of Music and many more melodies written by this famous duo during the twentieth century.
As a special incentive for new members, anyone who joins Rockwall MusicFest at the $25 level or above during the concert will receive a complimentary MusicFest T-shirt. It's a fun way to show your appreciation for the arts in our community! Anyone who visits the MusicFest tent during the concert and becomes a member at the $25 level or higher will receive a limited edition fashion statement featuring an image of the most talented octopus ever seen on a T-shirt. This musical mollusk was designed by Rockwall’s own Linda Oistad.
