OCTOBER FAMILY NIGHT IS OCTOBER 27!
Try an alternative to traditional Halloween activities as you join us on our Enchanted Forest Adventure. The event will include crafts, a seek-and-find adventure, and chance encounters with some of your favorite characters from fables and fairytales.
Come-and-go between 6:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. on October 27. You’ll want to allow 30-45 minutes for all the fun. Wear a costume if you’d like!
FREE ACTIVITIES AT THE PUMPKIN PATCH
Each Saturday at the Pumpkin Patch, the Library is sponsoring a storytime at 11:00 a.m. and a FREE craft activity from noon to 4:00 p.m.
The Pumpkin Patch is located on Ridge Road in the grassy area in front of the Brookshire’s grocery store.

Enjoy games, crafts, and refreshments from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon in the first floor Meeting Room. This program will take the place of the regular Monday 11:15 a.m. Preschool Time. Children in costume will receive a special prize.
READ TO YOUR BUNNY PROGRAM OFFERED AGAIN FOR FALL
Ninety-seven families participated in our summertime “Read to Your Bunny Program," which we are offering again this fall. Designed for little ones through age 24 months and those that love them, the program encourages families to complete fun literary activities together.
Register at the Children’s “Ask Me” desk and you’ll get a book bag, an activity log, and a copy of Rosemary Well’s book Read to Your Bunny. Between now and December 17, 2011, complete some fun and loving literary activities with your little “bunny” and win another book. It’s FUN and it’s FREE!
HEALTHY EATING WORKSHOP AND STORYTIME ON OCTOBER 22
For many of us, October means indulging in corny dogs, funnel cakes, candied apples, and Halloween candy. While an occasional treat is fine, a healthy diet should mostly contain fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Nathalie Sessions, (a.k.a. Grocery Girl™) who specializes in helping people choose healthy, affordable food, will be offering a free workshop at the Rockwall County Library on October 22, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the first floor Meeting Room.
Ms. Sessions is a nutritionist and research coordinator at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Her presentation at the Library will focus on healthful eating and meal planning for families.
While parents are attending the workshop, your children ages 4-10 are invited to their own nutrition program with Ms. Doreen in the storytime room for stories about food and good eating and fun activities including a craft.
For more information about the
workshop, call the library at 972-204-7700.
For information about the nutrition
storytime, call the Youth Services desk at 972-204-7740.
PUMPKIN SEEDS CONTEST—CAN YOU GUESS HOW MANY?
Our annual Pumpkin Seed Contest for children ages 5-12 runs from Oct. 3 through Oct. 29 this year. Drop by the Youth Services “Ask Me” desk and have a look at our pumpkin. Then take a guess on the number of seeds inside. On Oct. 29, Mrs. Miller will cut open the pumpkin and COUNT the seeds. The winner will receive a fun book and a sweet treat. Good luck!
CHILD SAFETY POLICY
Please remember that children ages seven through ten must be accompanied by a responsible person who is fourteen years or older. The responsible person must remain in the library with the child under age 11. Also, most importantly: DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF SEVEN UNATTENDED, EVEN FOR A MOMENT.
