The dirt is moving at the Shores Country Club. According to Kit Thomson, General Manager, the hot weather has slowed work on the course renovations somewhat, but "we're still looking at a fall opening."
Last week, Thomson took Planet Rockwall on a tour of the course where we could see first hand the crews and machinery busily working to meet the fall deadline. All along the course, bulldozers are re-shaping the hills and bunkers, creating the challenges and scenic beauty that makes the game so attractive to many. Under the supervision of internationally known course designer Jeffrey Blume, each tee, bunker and green is being meticulously re-sculpted, re-groomed, and planted to provide the best experience possible for golfers.
As General Manager at the Shores, Kit Thomson is not simply a hired hand. He also has plenty of skin in the game, so to speak. Thomson is part owner, and a member of the investment group that took ownership this year. During our tour, we stopped often at work sites to get status reports from each of the construction teams; Thomson's cell phone was never silent for long. "I plan to be a part of this community, and I intend to see this project done right."
Much still needs to be done, as irrigation systems are re-routed and upgraded to the higher standards the new owners require. The club house is currently closed for extensive renovations but is expected to open by November. In the meantime, the pools and tennis courts are open for business.
