Students invite community to sale ~ “Put others before self” project

Sixth graders at both Amy Parks-Heath and Grace Hartman Elementary have been working to "put others before self" and make a difference. In Language Arts class, the students wrote research papers on service themes, such as the elderly, community safety, animals in danger, homelessness/hunger, etc. After discovering the needs in our community and our world, they brain stormed ideas, and composed a procedural text explaining what they can do, with their own two hands, to meet the needs. Now the students are in the process of carrying out their service projects.
Christian Lenk, a sixth grader at Amy Parks, discovered there are people dying of dehydration and unsafe water in Africa. He came up with this idea for his service project:
"Clean out your closet, pack your stuff in your vehicle, and come to the Rockwall High School parking lot to make some fast cash, all while supporting a great cause."
On May 8, from 8am - 1pm, you are invited to sell and/or buy items from others in the Rockwall-Heath community who choose to participate. For a small donation of $5.00, the schools invite you to arrive at 7:30 am with a table to set up your own shop in a designated parking spot. The $5 fee will benefit an Amy Parks sixth grader's dream to assist in building a water well for the people in Africa through the Themba Foundation.
