These images show a planned release of water through the spillway at Lake Lavon on Tuesday, May 19. Such releases are routinely performed to stabilize water levels at the lake and to provide downstream flood control after recent heavy rains. Lavon is currently about a foot above normal, and is releasing water at a rate of 3,192 cubic feet per second.
Lake Lavon serves as the primary fresh water supply for Rockwall and surrounding communities. It was built and is administered by the US Army Corps of Engineers. For more information, visit the Corps website at http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/lavon/
