Our community is once again proving itself as a center for the arts as the Rockwall Art League hosted the works of local artists at the Rotary Hall at their annual Fall Show. On display were paintings, mixed media and photographs showcasing the talents of local artists from around the area.
As stated on their website, “The Rockwall Art League strives to further the education and interests of Rockwall area fine artists through programs and exhibits by providing local, statewide, and national opportunities for artists to expand their skills, reputation, and marketability.” They also sponsor the Tom Collins Memorial Scholarship, a $1000 scholarship awarded to one Rockwall Graduating Senior who is planning a career in 2-D, 3-D, graphic arts, or an art-related field requiring higher education.
Over 90 individual works of art were displayed. Prizes were awarded in six categories, with the first place winner in each category winning $200 and the runner up taking home $100. A “Best in Show” prize of $500 was presented to Becky Parks for her painting “Italian Street Scene”. Rockwall Mayor David Sweet presented the awards.
The Fall Show Planning Committee selected and engaged renowned Dallas artist Nancy Boren as the Judge for the Show. Nancy is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Outdoor Painters Society (Award of Excellence 2012), and a Master Signature Member of the American Women Artists. She is represented by the Southwest Gallery in Dallas, as well as galleries in Clifton and Fredericksburg; Tubac, AZ; and Steamboat Springs, CO.
