On April 12, 2014, the Rockwall Women’s League will be swingin’ with jazz at the annual Charity Ball. The event is the primary fund raiser for the organization, with a different theme every year. This years theme is Club 40 Jazz at the Ruby Room, a double reference to the 40-year anniversary of the organization, ruby being the 40th anniversary gemstone. Guests will enjoy a seated dinner, live auction, silent auction, champagne reception, dancing and prize drawings. Live music performed by thinkBIG Party band – Live music for lively events, anywhere in the world!
Guests and RWL members recently enjoyed a fashion show & luncheon that featured dresses and accessories for the upcoming ball. Gowns from Creations by Second Evolution were modeled by RWL members and Kim Hanna, the owner of Second Evolution in Rockwall.
The Rockwall Womens League has become a well-known local non-profit organization, recognized for service to the community. Members donate thousands of volunteer service hours per year to raise funds for scholarships and a long list of non-profit organizations. The League, which turned 40 this past November, is looking forward to celebrating this milestone during its annual charity ball at the Omni Hotel in Dallas.
The League was chartered in November of 1973 by five women with a desire to enrich the community using their unique talents. Founding member Patsy Hendrickson explains, “When I moved here, the lake was just filling up and you could feel an energy coming into this community. There were lots of stay at home moms with talent, time and energy to give, and there were five of us with an idea to tap into that energy. We all made phone calls, and the next thing you know, the league was born!”
The mission statement explains it best: “The commitment of Rockwall Women’s League is to unite and promote the Rockwall area through service to the community and through the initiation and support of civic, educational, and social events.”
The organization has evolved with the community, growing to over 30 active members and 100 or more associates dedicated to promoting the area through community service. The demographic has evolved, too, shifting from the stay at home moms to business owners and career women. A quick review of this years membership roster reveals some of the areas foremost civic and business leaders.
Last year, Rockwall Womens league disbursed over $90,000 to local community services and scholarship funds, and over $2 million over the life of the group. Funds are raised throughout the year with events such as Big Hat Bingo, cookbook sales, and the annual charity ball.
Local business sponsors for this year’s ball include: Willis Fine Jewelry, Westchester Homes, Cicis Pizza, Living Magazine, GMA Property Tax Consultants, Inwood National Bank, Q ball Design, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall, Alliance Bank, The Amick Group, Heath Salon & Spa, Home Bank, Williams Group, Young Hyundai, Lakeside Chevrolet, Rockwall Ford, Xcel Metal Mfg, Second Evolution, Blue Ribbon News, Vicky Chesna Team, Culpepper’s/Oar House/Fatted Calf, Lake Pointe Photography, Rockwall Auto Direct, Sea tech Retaining Walls, Womens Health Specialists of Dallas at Rockwall, Hatfield and Company, Planet Rockwall, and Brian Weast & Associates.
