On Friday, August 30, Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, the twin sons of Ricky Nelson, will perform at the Texan Theater in Greenville, starring in Ricky Nelson Remembered, a celebration of the legendary career of their father and the iconic TV Nelsons from the Ozzie and Harriet Show. The show combines live music of Ricky Nelson’s hit songs (performed by Matthew and Gunnar), as well as a unique multi-media presentation that includes video footage of the Nelson family and celebrities influenced by the music of Ricky Nelson.
Ricky Nelson Remembered was first developed by Matthew and Gunnar 22 years ago. It has evolved over the years as their families grew and technology became more sophisticated. Because of the TV show and his stature as the first “Teen Idol,” Ricky Nelson is the most televised rock star in history. This gives Matthew and Gunnar a wealth of video footage and clips to pull from, some never before seen, to incorporate into their 90 minute show.
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson have been performing since they were 12 years old, but it was 1990 when their career took flight with their rock band NELSON. Their self-penned #1 mega hit, (Can’t Live Without Your) Love & Affection” put the Nelson family in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family in entertainment history with three generations of #1 hit makers. Matthew and Gunnar have been touring ever since, performing pop rock, metal, and country music for millions of people world-wide.
Emotional Connection with Texas
This year marks the 34th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Ricky Nelson on his way to Arlington, Texas on New Year’s Eve in 1985. Because of the Texas association to their father’s passing, Matthew and Gunnar have an emotional connection whenever they perform in our great state. Within 10 minutes of the start of the show, they can detect a change in the audience, a state of mind that allows the audience to go back to a simpler time of family and wholesomeness. Perhaps because so many of us grew up with Ricky Nelson and the Nelson family on TV, the show becomes a reunion of sorts. Matthew and Gunnar are proud yet humbled to bring this celebration of their father’s life to audiences across America.
You won’t want to miss this show! Matthew and Gunnar have performed at the beautifully renovated Texan Theater before and love the venue—and they love Greenville! Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Texan Theater website. Audience members will even have the opportunity to meet Matthew and Gunnar after the show—they love meeting the audience and hearing how their father’s music influenced so many lives.
