Hoaglund selected for “Rites of Spring”

RAL Member and Immediate Past President Betty Hoaglund is one of 100 artists whose work was selected for
inclusion in the 2nd Annual “Rites of Spring” Juried Art Show, sponsored by Artists of Texas, Visual Language
Magazine, and the Davis & Company gallery in Spring, TX. The 100 juried pieces will be exhibited online from
March 8 through May 2, with 25 selected pieces on display in the gallery show at Davis & Company
Contemporary Fine Art Gallery in Spring from April 4 through May 2.

Visual Language Magazine will cover the show in its May issue. Davis & Company will host an Artists Reception on April 5 from 11AM-2PM. Betty
explained that after encouragement from friend and well-known artist Sharon Serrago, business partner and
fellow RAL member Doug Agee, and her husband Rick, she recently began entering contests. Betty’s 18”x 24”
acrylic painting, “Birds in Paradise” was inspired by traveling to Hawaii with Rick. It is her first painting done
entirely with a palette knife. Apparently, the contest officials have confused the title of the piece with another of
Betty’s entries, but she has taken it in her usual genial manner, and says she is “really honored to be in the

Other artists included in the show whose names you might recognize are Becky Parks, Nancy Medina,
and Kyle Wood, all of whom have demonstrated for the RAL in recent years.

Betty Hoaglund is the Immediate Past President of the Rockwall Art League, and a member of the Board of
Directors of the Rockwall County Alliance for the Arts. In addition to running her own executive recruiting
consultancy firm, the Gull Group, she is one of three owners of the
Artist’s Gallery on the Square
in downtown
Rockwall, at 102 South Goliad. The other two owners are also RAL members: Doug Agee and Claudia Holt. Betty and
her husband Rick reside in Rockwall.

Artists of Texas is a group founded in 2009 to “celebrate, advance, and promote art in the State of Texas.” It is
restricted to artists currently residing in Texas and members are juried in. It currently has a membership of over
