Seven ballet students from Rockwall dance studio, CK Studio, will be bringing holiday spirit to life in the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker this weekend. Madison Baker (Rowlett), Sydney Berry, Trinity Crider (Garland), Madison Grimes (Wylie), Makayla Mathis (Rowlett), Emily Schmukal (Rockwall), and Gracie Walsh (Rockwall) will be seven of many select, local ballet students performing at SMU McFarlin’s Auditorium in the Moscow Ballet’s 21st season.
In September, 99 local ballet students auditioned to participate in smaller roles with the professional traveling ballet company. Baker and Mathis will take the stage as snowflakes. Crider and Walsh will perform as French Sentinels. Berry’s role will be a Spanish Sentinel; and Grimes, a Russian Sentinel. The most senior CK Studio dancer in the show, Schmukal, will perform as a Butterfly and Russian Divertissement.
“I have watched these girls grow up at CK Studio and develop into beautiful young ladies and charming ballerinas,” said Lee Ann Whittington, CK Studio Owner. “It is a pleasure to work with each one of them every week and I cannot wait to see them take the stage in this year’s performance.”
The company of 40 acclaimed and award-winning dancers performs Olympic-worthy leaps, lifts and pirouettes in the traditional story of a girl and her Nutcracker Prince. Exclusive to Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker, is a tribute to world peace in which 2 dancers become one “Dove of Peace” with a 20 foot wingspan. The performance is recommended by national media: New York Times Chief Dance Critic says, “Knockout…kids were wide-eyed with delight”; Dallas Morning News, “The dancing sparkles in Great Russian Nutcracker” and Charleston Today, “Breathtaking strength and awe-inspiring lifts.”
Moscow Ballet’s Christmas story creates memories for a lifetime and these seven local ballerinas are so excited to be a part of such a renowned production.
