The Spirit of Christmas is in the Air!
It’s that time of year again…time to gather with friends, family and neighbors to start the season off right and bring Christmas cheer to the community! To kick off the holiday season, there’s a day-long celebration on Saturday, December 2, with festivities from 9a.m. until 8p.m.
First on the agenda is the 48th annual Kiwanis Christmas parade, which starts at the Rockwall County Courthouse (1111 W. Yellowjacket Lane) and winds through Old Town Rockwall for all to see and enjoy. This parade has been a fun family tradition in Rockwall for nearly 50 years and it’s still going strong.
Next, the small town holiday spirit continues with the Hometown Christmas celebration in Historic Downtown Rockwall. Just a few of the day’s activities include Christmas carolers, a puppet theater, pictures with Santa, bounce houses, a snow tubing hill, and a Christmas pet parade.
The celebration wraps up with the 34th annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the lawn in front of City Hall (385 S. Goliad St.). This is a can’t miss event that’s complete with bounce houses, a photo opportunity with Santa, free Christmas cookies and hot chocolate bar—all as lively holiday music fills the air. HELPING HANDS TOY DRIVE
Every year Rockwall residents rally to help our neighbors in need during the holidays. Rockwall County Helping Hands has a program to provide for those struggling with crisis, including donating toys to make Christmas brighter for more than 1,000 local children. The annual Toy Drive kicked off this year on November 20.
Toy tags are available at drop-off locations, such as City Hall, located at 385 S. Goliad St., and new toys must be dropped off by noon on Tuesday, December 12. For more information about ways to help with the toy drive, please visit: rockwallHelpingHands.com.
